“Maternity is no argument against women in leadership positions”
In an interview with Your Chemistry Career Dr. Achim guest took a position on the compatibility of work and family. An excerpt from the interview with the chairman by the Career Portal of the Baden-Württemberg chemical industry for students, alumni and career entrants:
Dr. Gast, Wörwag competes in Stuttgart with many attractive employers. How important is the personal appreciation of each individual employee?
Very important. That is why we are honest with our employees. We also have the appropriate appraisal of good performance. This is not strictly hierarchical, but is implemented in different ways.
Is it difficult to fill these values with life in everyday life?
No. Of course, we bring enormous performance, we tackle every new challenge professionally and purposefully. But we never lose sight of the people who are behind it. We work together and we celebrate success together. That counts. We do not always succeed. Especially in turbulent times, we quickly forget what is really important. It is crucial that you learn from it. We are a big family and hold together accordingly. The employees and the management know this. We act accordingly. And this cohesion connects us.
What exactly do you mean by family-minded personnel policy?
The family is the basis for all decisions. Only when the basis is working can decisions be made correctly. A compatibility between the family and the professional task is therefore extremely important to us.
How can Wörwag reconcile work and family life?
In addition to flexible working hours and flexitime, we offer various part-time models. If desired and if the activities permit, home office workplaces are also possible. Women in leadership positions often have to weigh whether they are taking a break when they get children. Many fear a downgrade after parental leave.
Can they take these fears?
In any case. Maternity leave is no argument against women in leadership positions. Depending on the time capacity, mothers can continue to fulfill their management tasks.
